Is there
a Windows 2000 driver for my SCSI scanner? Where can I find it?
|
|
The Windows 2000 is available now. Please download it
from download page. If your original SCSI card is DTC ISA interface, it
doesn't support Win 2000 system. You must purchase a new standard SCSI II
card which supports Win 2000. Please be aware that our scanners are not
compatible with Ultra Wide SCSI cards such as Adaptec 2940UW.

Troubleshooting procedures on
Windows 95/98:
|
|
The
following are general trouble-shooting procedures for our SCSI flatbed
scanners on Windows 95/98 environment, assuming your are
using the original SCSI card (DTC 3151X) and cable came with the scanner.
1. Make sure that the SCSI card is fully plugged in the slot of your
computer.
2. Double-check all physical connections on the SCSI chain to make sure
they are firmly connected. Please do not use any SCSI extension cables to
connect the scanner because they may increase resistance and produce
interference of data transmission.
3. Turn on your scanner first to check on the hardware status. For A6000C / A6000C Plus, the LCD panel
should display "Ready to Scan" after power-on test; for AT3 / AT6
/ AT12, the POWER and READY LED indicators should be on and the ERROR light
should be off after power-on test. If that is not the case, the scanner
hardware maybe defective, you need to contact your dealer for service.
4. Boot up your computer while the scanner is already powered on. Go to the
Device Manager (click on "Start | Settings | Control Panel", then
double-click on "System" icon) to check on the properties of the
following two entries:
SCSI Controllers
- DTC 3181X/DTC 3151X SCSI HOST ADAPTER (or your own SCSI card)
ARTEC Scanner
- ULTIMA AT12 (or other model name)
If both devices show up in the Device Manager, then it means all
soft/hardware have been installed properly. The scanner is ready, you can skip the rest of the trouble-shooting
steps and start scanning.
5. If the property of DTC card shows "this device is working
properly", this means the computer can properly communicate with the
SCSI card, please go to the next step. Otherwise: If there is no SCSI
Controllers listed, please make sure you have the latest 32-bit driver for
the scanner ready, then run setup program to re-install the scanner and
SCSI card driver again.
If there is a red "X" mark in front of the SCSI card entry,
the card may be damaged. Please insert the card into another slot of the
computer, or if possible, another computer to test it. If the problem
persists, you need to contact ARTEC dealer to replace or repair the SCSI
card.
If there is a yellow "!" mark in front of the SCSI card entry,
this means the computer has found the card with the correct device driver,
but the communication between the card and the computer is interrupted,
please try the following: Re-seat the SCSI card as it could be a bad
connection between the expansion slot and SCSI interface card. The problem
spot maybe on the expansion slot too, so if possible, re-seat the card into
another slot or another computer for a try.
There may be an I/O address conflict between the card and other
devices. The SCSI card can be set to use one of eight basic I/O address
ranges: 220H~23FH, 240H~25FH, 280H~29FH, 2A0H~2BFH, 2C0H~2DFH, 300H~31FH, 320H~33FH and 340H~35FH. The
jumper settings and respective I/O address range is printed on the SCSI
card. Please check on the properties of "Computer" under Device
Manager to find out a free I/O address range, then
adjust the jumper settings on the card accordingly.
If the above steps couldn't solve the problem, the SCSI card may be
damaged, please return it for replace or repair.
6. The SCSI card is working properly, but there is no ARTEC Scanner
listed in the Device Manager. In this case, the problem happens between the
SCSI card and the scanner. It maybe due to the following reasons: You turn
on the scanner after Windows boots up. The SCSI scanners are treated as
removable SCSI devices under Windows 95/98, therefore the scanner must be
powered on prior to the computer in order for the Windows to load up the
proper device driver for it. If that is the case, you can either reboot the
computer while leave the scanner powered on, or click on
"Refresh" in the Device Manager for the computer to detect the
scanner again.
The SCSI ports (of the SCSI card or the scanner) or SCSI cable maybe
defective, you need to contact your local dealer to replace or repair the
unit.

Can I use other SCSI control
cards instead of the attached SCSI interface card to operate the scanner?
|
|
Our scanners are compatible with other SCSI-II compatible cards such
as Adaptec 2940, 2940U as long as they coincide with ASPI specifications.
But please be aware that our scanners are not compatible with Ultra Wide
SCSI cards such as Adaptec 2940UW. AM12S does support Ultra Wide SCSI card.
You can follow the following steps to set up the scanner's driver.
On Windows 95/98:
1. Make sure the 32-bit device driver for your SCSI card is properly
installed.
2. Connect the scanner to your SCSI card. If the scanner is the last
external SCSI device, we recommend installing a SCSI terminator on the back
of the scanner to prevent your computer from locking up.
3. Run the scanner's setup program to install Windows 95/98 driver.
4. Restart your computer.
However, if you are running Windows 3.x, please follow the instructions
below:
1. Make sure that you have the ASPI manager for your third party SCSI card
installed in your CONFIG.SYS. If you are not sure about how you can do
that, please contact the manufacturer of your SCSI card.
2. Connect the scanner to your SCSI card. If the scanner is the last
external SCSI device, we recommend installing a SCSI terminator on the back
of the scanner to prevent your computer from locking up.
3. Run the Setup program for Scantools and choose
to install the DOS driver. Before you reboot your computer, please delete
or remark this line "device=c:\windows\twain\ARTEC\As80dos.sys"
in your CONFIG.SYS file (this is the default driver for the SCSI card that
comes with the scanner.)
4. Restart your computer.

I get an error message that says
"Unable to open driver failure or no scanner". Why?
|
|
There are several factors that can contribute to this problem, please
refer to the troubleshooting steps under Windows 95/98 or Windows 3.x for
detailed information.

After I installed the scanner
driver and rebooted my computer, my scanner still doesn't work and there is
a yellow exclamation mark next to the DTC SCSI card in the Device Manager
|
|
All ARTEC parallel port scanners featured a pass-through printer port
for you to connect a printer on it. IA yellow exclamation (!) mark next to
a peripheral in the Device Manager means that there is some sort of
resource conflict or improper installation of the device. Please make sure
that the DTC SCSI card has been properly installed into the computer. Also
make sure that the I/O address requested by the DTC SCSI card is not in use
by another device in your computer. Please refer to "troubleshooting
under Windows 95/98" for more detailed information.

Why couldn't I find the scanner's
interface card (DTC 3151) in the hardware's choices during Windows 95/98
setup?
|
|
We apologize for this, as our SCSI cards are not Plug
& Play ready devices. However, if you were to run the Setup program
that came with the scanner, it should install the 32-bit drivers for both
the SCSI card and the scanner. Afterward, both the scanner and SCSI card
should show up under the Device Manager.

Why can’t I find the manual
attached with scanner?
|
|
Most PC suppliers have replaced printed manual with electronic files.
Please find the attached CD for manual.

|
The scanner stops moving at the
half way through during the normal "Scan" or "Pre-scan"
operation, and the computer is locked up as well. What happens?
|
|
This problem usually occurs when the scanner is
connected to a 3rd party SCSI card. Please install a SCSI terminator into
your scanner. In general, a terminator is required on the first (SCSI card)
and the last SCSI (the scanner, in this case) devices to prevent data
signal reflection from the two ends of the SCSI bus. This can assure the
stability of data transmission.

Is there a Windows NT driver for
my scanner? Where can I find it?

The lamp
on my scanner is always on, is that normal?
|
|
Yes. The
lamps in these CCD optical module scanners are designed to be on whenever
the main power is on. This design is for reducing scanner warm-up time and
ensuring consistent scanning quality, and the lamp is built to be long
lasting and energy saving, so you can leave the scanners on in that way.

Why does my flatbed scanner makes a knocking sound and fails
to work after the power is being switched on?
|
|
This is caused by users who forget to unlock the
scanner or failed to unlock the scanner properly. If you don't unlock it, that will prevent the optical module from moving and
thus resulting in the noise you hear. Please refer to the scanner's user
manual to unlock the scanner.

I have a
parallel port Zip drive installed prior to installing the scanner. After I
installed the software for the scanner, both the Zip drive and the scanner
are not working.
|
|
The reason is because your parallel port Zip drive
uses a Windows 95 driver that "fools" the system into thinking
that it's a SCSI interface. In doing so, it diverts the scanner driver away
from our SCSI driver. The way to resolve this is to remove the Windows 95
parallel port Zip driver from your Device Manager and use Iomega's winguest.exe
program to assign a drive letter to your parallel port Zip drive.

I
purchased an ARTEC flatbed scanner for my Macintosh computer. When I try to
"Acquire", I get error messages like "ReadScan
Error", "SendCommand Error",
"Type 11 error" or "Code 21".
|
|
If you are getting error messages like "ReadScan Error", "SendCommand
Error" or "Type 11 Error", that
means there is a compatibility problem between our scanner and your
computer. Try to download the replacement plug-in drivers from our web.
However, if you get a "Code 21" when you try to acquire, it means
that there is some sort of SCSI communication problem between the scanner
and the computer. Please double-check all connections and try again. If
possible, try a different SCSI cable to see if that will remedy the
situation. If the problem persists, please return the scanner to your local
dealer for repair.

I have an
A6000C (A6000C Plus) scanner.
Before scanning, the LCD displays "Ready to scan". But, once I
push the "scan" button, it changes to "EC008". What is
the problem?
|
|
This message indicates that the scanner's SCSI port
that you were using might be defective. Try to connect the SCSI cable to
another SCSI port on your scanner and see how it works. If it works well,
then the first SCSI port is defective and the second one is good. Please
return the scanner to your dealer for repair.
